All cadets, and adult military staff, have ranks. Ranks correspond to a cadet's level of training, and assigned responsibility.
Cadets can be promoted to the next higher rank once they have fulfilled the criteria set out by national regulations (CATO 13-02: Merit-Based Cadet Rank Promotions). Promotion criteria is in place to ensure that every cadet is given the same opportunity to advance, provided that they have completed the necessary training, obtained the skills or qualifications needed to be promoted, and that there is a job for that individual the desired rank.
All promotions are at the discretion of the Commanding Officer.
